Alfatroll AS was established to exploit a new idea about Knowledge Based Systems (KBS). The product IQMotor is especially suited for use as a reasoning engine in autonomous systems of all kinds, whether they exist in the form of a server-based system or as an embedded system

In its first incarnation IQMotor was implemented as an autopilot for UAV systems (also called UAS), cabaple of following a mission path prepared on the ground or altered en route. There exists many such systems in the market already, mostly based upon traditional PID regulation loops. The characteristics of an autopilot on this level is to obey orders, and to carry these out in an expedite manner is expected.

Being a Knowledge based system (KBS), IQMotor is being trained at the much more demanding task of cognitive decision making, thus giving the auopilot the orders. As a basis for these orders, the cognitive pilot need to take into account other traffic (detect & avoid), terrain (obstacle avoidance or how to best utilize the terrain), and to choose actions that are appropriate for the situation; These may be to dive under, climb over, deviate by a detour track, or to perform combat evasive actions if the approaching object proves to be of a hostile nature.

We claim that Alfatrolls IQMotor has…

  • the smallest runtime footprint of all KBS systems, yet it can grow «endlessly» in capacity
  • always has a predictable response time when recognizing a situation
  • is less complex to set up and use than other KBS systems
  • reacts to events that occur out «of the blue», and
  • due to its small size and effeicient, fully deterministic behaviour, may be the only KBS system that can be certified for use in avionics to the most strict standards.

A system with such properties certainly need to be different, and that is just what IQMotor is. The main principle has been patented, and is truly unique in its simple, yet effective function.

We do not make our own UAV planes, we focus 100% on the software solutions that constitute the remaining barriers for UAVs to enter ordinary, non-segregated airspace.
